Ramadan Advertising in the UAE: How to Plan Your Campaign

Ramadan reshapes consumer behaviour in the UAE more than any other period, and campaigns planned three weeks out consistently underperform. The businesses that win start planning eight to ten weeks ahead.

What actually changes

Timing shifts dramatically. Daytime engagement drops, evening activity surges after iftar, and late-night browsing extends well past midnight. Ad scheduling built on normal-month data will miss your audience entirely.

Spending rises but concentrates. Grocery, gifting, hospitality, fashion and home categories see substantial lifts. Discretionary categories outside those can soften.

Tone matters enormously. Ramadan is a religious observance, not a retail season. Campaigns that treat it as a discount opportunity read poorly and can damage brands with the audience they most want.

Working hours shorten, which affects B2B response times and lengthens sales cycles.

Planning timeline

8 to 10 weeks before: Strategy, budget, creative concepts. Book media early, inventory tightens and costs rise.

4 to 6 weeks before: Produce creative. Arabic and English, tested separately.

2 weeks before: Campaigns built, tracking verified, dayparting configured for post-iftar patterns.

During: Monitor daily. Behaviour shifts across the month, particularly in the final ten days.

Eid transition: A distinct phase with its own intent, gifting and celebration. Plan it as a separate campaign, not an afterthought.

Creative that works

Themes of family, generosity, community and reflection resonate. Understated, warm and human outperforms loud and promotional.

Avoid: imagery of eating or drinking during fasting hours, aggressive discount framing, and generic "Ramadan Kareem" posts with no substance behind them.

Budget considerations

Media costs rise as competition increases. Expect higher cost per click and plan for it rather than being surprised when efficiency drops.

Shift budget weighting towards evening hours. Reduce or pause daytime delivery in categories where daytime engagement collapses.

The mistake most brands make

Treating it as a two-week promotional window. Ramadan and Eid together span roughly six weeks of changed behaviour, with distinct phases. Plan the full arc.
