Core Web Vitals: Why Your Dubai Website Is Losing Customers

Core Web Vitals measure how quickly your site loads, how fast it responds, and how much it moves around while loading. Pages that pass all three are significantly more likely to rank in the top positions, and the revenue impact is measurable well before the ranking impact.

The three metrics:

LCP, Largest Contentful Paint. How long until the main content appears. Target under 2.5 seconds.

INP, Interaction to Next Paint. How quickly the page responds when someone taps or clicks. Target under 200 milliseconds. This replaced First Input Delay and is stricter.

CLS, Cumulative Layout Shift. How much elements jump around while loading. Target under 0.1.

Why this matters commercially, not just technically

Mobile users in the UAE are impatient and the market is competitive. A site taking four seconds to become usable loses a substantial share of visitors before they see anything. If you are also paying for those visitors through ads, you are paying twice for the failure.

The failures we find most often in this market

Enormous unoptimised images. The single most common cause of poor LCP. Hero images exported at full resolution, served as PNG, no modern format, no responsive sizing.

Hero video without safeguards. Increasingly popular in agency and hospitality sites here, and frequently the cause of a failing LCP. If you use hero video, compress aggressively, serve a poster image immediately, and consider a static image on mobile.

Plugin bloat. WordPress sites carrying thirty plugins, each loading its own scripts on every page.

Fonts loading badly. Multiple weights of multiple families, blocking render, causing visible text shift.

Ads and embeds without reserved space. Chat widgets, maps and banners inserted after load push content down, which is what CLS measures.

Chat widgets and tag managers. Often the largest contributor to poor INP, because they run heavy JavaScript on the main thread.

How to fix the common ones

Convert images to WebP or AVIF, size them responsively, and set explicit width and height so space is reserved. Defer non-critical JavaScript. Limit font weights. Audit and remove plugins. Reserve space for anything that loads late. Move heavy third-party scripts off the critical path.

Measure it properly

Use PageSpeed Insights for lab data and Search Console's Core Web Vitals report for real user data. The Search Console figures are what actually count, because they reflect real visitors on real devices, including the mid-range Android phones a lot of your audience uses.
